Sanyo Components Direct is a member of the Sanyo Group specializing in, and selling, laser Diodes directly to businesses. They recently decided to expand their operation to the web and chose Miva Merchant because of its enterprise level capabilities and ability to scale. Currently, they only sell a limited number of laser diodes but they plan to expand and sell their entire catalog of semiconductors and components online. We were given the task to create a simple but elegant site which breaks the mold of the plain, and sometimes boring, engineering and technically-focused websites. They wanted something which was easy on the eyes and also tied in the themes of nature and children throughout.

Why did you choose Miva Merchant? Every time I asked for a change or update, I was afraid I would be told it wasn't in the original scope, would be extra etc. It never happened, the team just kept coming back until we got what we wanted. What were you looking for in an online shopping cart system? Fairly wide market acceptance and an independent developer network.

What do you believe is the greatest advantage of Miva Merchant? I like the availability of third-party modules. What other shopping carts did you consider and why was Miva Merchant better? I don't remember now, but there were some very strong competitors; most of which had a fairly closed platform; we would have been forced to use one company for all dev aspects.
